Stairgate
to Heaven specialises in Stairgates - or safety gates as they're known as they
can be used in other locations other than just on stairs.Originally used for keeping children from climbing the stairs and falling down, stairgates are now used in many more places. They're frequently used for keeping crawling babies and toddlers out of the kitchen and away from all the dangers that lurk in there.
A stairgates is an essential to keep your child safe in your home. They keep your children outof the kitchen when you're cooking and away from dangerous hot cookers or being able to tip pans over, and they keep them from climbing the stairs and having an accident. You can't watch your child ever second of the day and a stairgate means you can relax safe in the knowledge that they can't get up the stairs to tumble down, and that when the oven is on they can't get in to the kitchen to touch it.
Mothercare is our preferred choice for everything for your baby and nursery. They have a great price promise which means they check the prices so you don't have to. If you do see an item cheaper elsewhere wihin seven days then get in touch with them for them to honour their price promise.
Which stairgate for you?
You need to know how wide the opening is. If you have an extra wide stair case then you'll need an extra wide safety gate or one with an extension available. First step is to measure - don't assume it's standard width as every house is different
How many stairgates should you have?
It is a good idea to have at least two stair gates. One at the top of your stairs and one at the bottom. Which this is might seem over the top to some people, it ensures your child can't play on the stairs and only uses them as they should be used. If your child plays upstairs in their room, or can get out of their cot or bed on their own then it's a good idea to stop them being able to get on to the stairs and go downstairs. If your kids don't play upstairs or can't get get out of their cot then you don't need one at the top of the stairs. The secret is to be ready before they are though! As soon as they start crawling you need to be aware that babies can move really fast when they want to!
I'd recommend getting one for your kitchen too. Accidents happen so quickly that it's easier to make sure your child is safe when you're cooking to keep them out of the kitchen. Oven doors get very hot and toddlers can reach up to worksurfaces and cooker tops where they might find pans of hot water to pull down on themselves or sharp knives, or just pulling things off the worktop making more work for you. When you have time to let them help you cook then yuo can let them in to the kitchen but if you're rushing about cooking a big meal then it's often safer and easier to keep them safely outside.
Different types of stair gate - the U type have a frame that goes down each side and across the bottom meaning there is a bottom bar to avoid tripping on. It is generally considered snesible to have one without a U frame at the top of the stairs just to remove any trip hazard.
